Form and ... no, not content, but shape and silhouette - these are the two main characteristics of our clothes. Many others are added to them, which are also important, but not so much as to determine the style of the era.

The silhouette is determined firstly by the degree of fit to the figure and, secondly, by the appearance of the geometric figure, which it most resembles.

Clothing of a direct silhouette, sometimes intercepted by a belt, - the beginning began, it was she who sewed cavemen in the prehistoric era.

A straight, or H-silhouette (as it is called in most countries of Western Europe) can be with different freedom of fit, which, by the way, depends on the quality of the fabric (for example, a dress made of highly tensile in the transverse direction of the fabric can become a fitting figure, but it the pattern will be a direct silhouette).

Even a straight silhouette can resemble a variety of shapes: narrow or wide rectangle, square. Much in this silhouette can change the length and shape of the shoulder, as well as the presence or absence of a belt. Hollywood-style wedding and evening dresses can also have a straight silhouette. Narrow and long, they emphasize the waist and hips and most stylishly “open” the neckline, on the back it can even drop to the level of the hips. Such dresses are also called "columns."

Strictly speaking, the H-silhouette was proposed by Christian Dior in 1954.The waist line must be emphasized either with a belt or a wide scarf. Today, especially in Russia, the silhouette of the H-shape is often called straight.

Which figure is more suitable for such a silhouette? It depends a lot on the fabric. A dress “around” the length of the knees made of dense fabric - plain or with a small pattern will fit well on full women, but from a flowing or knitted fabric with a large pattern it will only fit tall and thin, with broad shoulders. For women of short stature, it is better to choose a straight silhouette of a "narrow rectangle" with emphasized vertical details.

Loose blouses and pullovers combined with straight wide trousers will ideally hide the protruding tummy.

Pants of a direct silhouette are a must-have item in a wardrobe from 48 sizes and more.

Well, a straight pencil skirt with a straight or semi-fitted blouse and a strap at the waist is an ideal office option and a striking example of a Diorovsky H-silhouette.
